Understanding the Person, Not Just the Diagnosis

Jennifer Lane, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, is a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with eight years of experience in mental health care. She works with adolescents, adults, and older adults experiencing a variety of mental health and substance use concerns.

Jennifer earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where she also completed a minor in Clinical Psychology. She later earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University and became board certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Her background includes acute inpatient psychiatry, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient treatment, forensic psychiatry, and addiction medicine. She has worked in state psychiatric hospitals in Colorado and California, caring for patients with both acute and chronic psychiatric conditions. Her experience includes mood and anxiety disorders, PTSD and other trauma-related conditions, ADHD, psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions.

Jennifer believes good psychiatric care starts with understanding the person, not just the diagnosis. She takes a trauma-informed approach and considers each patient's history, current concerns, medical needs, life circumstances, and personal goals when developing a treatment plan.

Her approach includes evidence-based medication management, patient education, and shared decision-making. Jennifer values open communication and strives to create a therapeutic relationship where patients feel heard, respected, and involved in their care.
