Integrated Care

Primary Care That Understands Your Whole Health

Most psychiatry practices do not offer primary care. Most primary care offices do not have psychiatrists on staff. CARMAhealth is different. Our primary care providers work in the same practice as our board-certified psychiatrists, creating a level of coordination that is rare in outpatient medicine. That means your practitioner already knows which psychiatric medications you take before writing a new prescription. It means routine bloodwork can serve double duty, monitoring both your metabolic health and the effects of your psychiatric treatment. Services include chronic disease management for diabetes and hypertension, preventive screenings and vaccinations, women's health exams, infectious disease treatment including Hepatitis C and HIV care, dietary consultation, STD testing, and minor office procedures.

Whole-Person Health

Why Integrated Care Leads to Better Outcomes

People living with mental health conditions are significantly more likely to develop chronic physical illnesses. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, more than 59 million adults in the United States live with a mental illness. Many face co-occurring physical health challenges that often go undertreated when psychiatric and primary care are delivered by separate, unconnected providers.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration promotes integrated care models that bring primary care and behavioral health together under one roof. Research supported by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality confirms that integrated care improves outcomes while reducing costs, particularly for patients managing both psychiatric and chronic medical conditions.

At CARMAhealth, your primary care provider works alongside your psychiatrist. That means one team monitoring how your psychiatric medications interact with other prescriptions, tracking how chronic conditions like diabetes or hypertension affect your mental health treatment, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks. It is the kind of coordinated care that most practices simply cannot offer.

Getting Started

How Primary Care Works at CARMAhealth

1

Schedule Your Visit

Call (512) 212-4670 or visit our patient portal to book an appointment at our Austin or Dripping Springs office. If you are also starting psychiatric care, your practitioner may recommend a psychiatric evaluation during the same period.

2

Comprehensive Health Assessment

Your practitioner reviews your complete medical history, including any psychiatric medications you currently take. This holistic view ensures your primary care plan accounts for your full health picture.

3

Personalized Care Plan

Based on your assessment, your practitioner creates a care plan addressing preventive screenings, chronic condition management, lifestyle factors, and any coordination needed with your psychiatric treatment team.

4

Ongoing Monitoring and Follow-Up

Regular visits keep your health on track. Your practitioner monitors lab results, adjusts treatment as needed, and communicates directly with your psychiatrist when coordination matters. Follow-ups are available in person or via telehealth.

No. CARMAhealth's primary care services are available to all patients, whether or not you receive psychiatric treatment with us. That said, patients who see us for both benefit from having their medical and mental health practitioners under one roof, reducing the risk of medication interactions and gaps in care.

Many psychiatric medications can affect blood pressure, metabolic function, and other physical health markers. When your primary care provider and psychiatrist work in the same practice, they can coordinate medication decisions, monitor for interactions, and address physical symptoms that may be related to your mental health treatment. Research from SAMHSA shows that integrated care models improve outcomes while reducing overall healthcare costs.

Primary care is available at our two Texas locations: Central Austin (630 West 34th Street) and Dripping Springs (13830 Sawyer Ranch Rd). We do not offer primary care at our Coral Springs, Florida location. Telehealth follow-up visits are available for our Texas patients.
